RAILSIM Safe Braking Distance Add-On supports calculations for multiple-stage runs.
Each stage is user-defined, including its duration and type of tractive and braking effort curves used.

RAILSIM's Safe Braking Distance Calculation Add-On calculates safe braking distances for "worst case" signal design purposes. Like the Headway Add-On, the Safe Braking Distance Add-On can be used from either RAILSIM Editor or from RAILSIM TPC. It can analyze any number of defined train types from any number of Signal/IJ/Bond Locations, using these powerful features:

  • Both Forward and Reverse safe braking distance processing;
  • Processing of single or multiple stages in a single run (Free Running for 3 seconds, followed by Coast for 8 seconds, followed by Braking to a Stop, for example);
  • User-specified train compositions, including testing of multiple train lengths;
  • User-specified settings and parameters, including Rear Wheel to Coupler Overhang distance, ATC Receiver/Trip Cock Setback, and a buffer distance (typically the positional accuracy uncertainty);
  • Processing of multiple velocities for a single location,
  • Adjustment factors for reducing curves and for all braking curves.

When accessed from RAILSIM Editor, this Add-On lets you generate an engineering drawing in CAD DXF file format in addition to the traditional RAILSIM Safe Braking Distance Report.
